We advise that all reproductive age women should be on some type of multivitamin, preferably one that has the recommended amount of folic acid. Most standard prenatal vitamins have 800 micrograms, to 1 milligram per dose, which is sufficient.
We recommend coming in for a pre-conception counseling appointment where we can have a patient-centered discussion to help you have a healthy pregnancy. During this visit, we generally review your medical history, obstetrical history, vaccinations history (making sure they are up-to-date), and we also discuss ways to maximize the odds of successful conception.
