Healthy habits and obstetrics for a healthy pregnancy for Fulshear women

what is obstetrics fulshear in Katy area

The moment that you learn of your pregnancy may be eagerly anticipated, or it might come as an unexpected surprise. In either case, it marks the beginning of an exciting and stressful journey. Every child brings unique challenges, blessings, and experiences, whether this is your first baby, or an addition to a large family. Your life is about to change. Your body is also about to change, which can be challenging and alarming in itself, especially for new moms.

The first thing you should do if you believe you are pregnant is see a qualified obstetrician such as Dr. Taryll Jenkins. In addition to providing medical care as needed, he will help you understand what is going on, and what to expect. Everything that affects your body and health also affects your baby. It is important to have professional guidance on topics such as:

  • Nutrition – Your diet should include a healthy balance of basic nutrients, such as carbohydrates, proteins, minerals, and vitamins. Dietary supplements may be helpful; however, it is important to note that an excess of certain vitamins and minerals can be harmful. Even products labeled as natural or herbal may not be safe during pregnancy. Be sure to discuss your nutritional needs with Dr. Jenkins, and consult him before beginning any medication or supplement.
  • Exercise – Physical activity may be challenging, especially in the later stages of pregnancy, but it is important for your health and your baby’s health. Exercise can decrease your discomfort, help you sleep better, and help prevent gestational diabetes. However, you should choose your activities carefully, and avoid excess strain. Dr. Jenkins will advise you of what activities should be avoided.
  • Morning sickness – Nausea, which can actually occur any time of the day, is common during pregnancy. The exact cause is not known, though the problem is not usually severe. If the nausea becomes bad enough that you can’t consume sufficient food or liquids, Dr. Jenkins can recommend supplements or prescribe anti-nausea medications.
  • Back pain – Added weight, changes in your center of gravity, changes in posture, and weakened abdominal muscles are just a few of the factors that contribute to back pain during pregnancy. Dr. Jenkins can advise you about good posture, the best way to stretch or lean, and tips for easing the pain.
  • Hazardous habits – Alcohol, tobacco, or drugs consumed during pregnancy, will quickly reach your fetus. Unfortunately, quitting is not always easy. If you suffer from dangerous addictions, please talk to Dr. Jenkins. He can make recommendations or referrals as needed, to help you protect your baby and yourself.

Jenkins Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Medicine - reviews

Dr. Jenkins is a wonderful doctor, he is very smart always taking the time to make sure the needs of his patients are met. He delivered my baby and also performed my partial hysterectomy. He connects with the family in a way most doctors don't. When you tell him of any issues you have with staff or his office he listens and corrects. Dr. Jenkins has been my OB/GYN now for 10 years next month and I wouldn't change a thing. He is a 5 star in my book.
