Katy obstetrician, Dr. Falae, explains the importance of prenatal care

Obstetrician Dr Falae in Katy area

The practice of obstetrics focuses on caring for pregnant women and unborn children. Proper prenatal care is critical to the health of the mom and the baby. Dr. Adebola Falae, a trusted obstetrician at Jenkins Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Medicine in Katy has treated countless patients throughout the course of their pregnancies. She knows that pregnancy is an exciting, but also stressful time.

Prenatal care should begin before conception

Ideally, women should begin thinking about their health before they start trying to conceive. Some of the most important things include:

  • Quit smoking and stop, or limit, alcohol consumption
  • Talk to your physician about your current medications and how they could affect you during pregnancy
  • Start taking a prenatal vitamin
  • Ensure that chronic medical conditions are properly managed.

Prenatal care during pregnancy

Once the pregnancy test turns positive, it is even more important to take care of yourself at home and find an obstetrician. Together with a trusted physician you can be sure that you and your baby are receiving the right health care. Throughout your pregnancy, you should be sure to:

  • Find an OB early in the pregnancy. Most physicians begin seeing expectant mothers around the eighth week of pregnancy. Your OB will monitor the growth of the baby, heartbeat, and run tests and ultrasounds to ensure the pregnancy is progressing as expected.
  • Continue to take multivitamins and eat a healthy diet
  • Talk to your physician about the amount of weight you should expect to gain
  • Don’t drink, smoke, or use drugs
  • Continue to exercise as you did before. If you have questions about your workouts be sure to ask your physician.
  • Rest when possible, strive for solid sleep each night, and try to limit stress.

Jenkins Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Medicine - reviews

I believe that superb service must not go unnoticed. I started prenatal care in my third trimester with Dr. Jenkins and I couldn’t have asked for a better doctor. He was extremely professional and his bedside manner was A+. He is very genuine and it is evident that he is passionate about what he does. I am grateful to have had such an amazing experience, during this pregnancy, with Dr. Jekins and his staff.
